Division I- Horticulture

The sections consisted of Annuals, Biennials & Perennials, Bulbs,

Rhizomes, Corms, Vegetables, and Container-Grown plants.

These five pictures show entries in the Division I: Section A- Annuals, Section B- Biennials & Perennials and Section C- Bulbs, Rhizomes, Corms.

Included with this is a separate table with the Club Flower- Zinnia-‘Benary’s Giant Wine

These pictures show Section D- Vegetables.

Section E- Container-Grown plants finish up the Horticulture Division.

Division II- Design

There were two sections in this division: Section A-Table Artistry, and Section B- Designer’s Choice.

The Table Artistry has three Classes. The first class had Table or Tray for One.

The second class had an Alfresco Beach Dining Experience for Two.

The third class was an Alfresco Outdoor Dining with a Service for Four.

Section B- Designers’ Choice

Class 4- Novice Class was open to members who have not previously won a blue ribbon in a design class.

Their design could use fresh and/or dried plant material and any choice of style (line, line mass, mass, creative, etc).

Division III- Botanical Arts

for Artistic Crafts and Photography

Section A-Artistic Crafts are objects with a function. They serve a purpose and may be labeled as a creative object such as a basket, necklace, package or hat.

Section B- Photography- This is intended to stimulate garden/gardening, photographic abilities and National Garden Club goals and objectives.

Section A- Class 1- Lady’s Hat; Class 2- Dress Form; Class 3- Jewelry.

Photography had three classes: Class 5- Harvests from the Garden; Class 6- Photos of Insects; Class 7- Garden Spaces

Awards

Thanks to all the members who entered the show. All entries are judged by accredited judges and the results are listed below. Congratulations to the winners!

National Garden Club Flower Show Awards

Andy Fedore, the “Ode to Summer” 2024 Flower Show Chair, presented awards to the special award winners at the regular GCJ meeting on October 14, 2024.

The winners of these awards, keep the award for two years, until the next flower show.

Carla Straw was the winner of the Joan Mayer Memorial Award (most points in Design Division), the Lydia Reese Memorial Award (Club Flower Winner) and the Dorothy Thackray Memorial Award (Horticulture Excellence Winner).

Debbie Carpenter was the winner of the Diane B. Herman Memorial Award (most points in Botanical Arts Division).

Donna Adams was the winner of the Mary Jo Gardill Novice Award (Novice Class Winner).

Charlotte Crissey, the winner of the Sophie Moiles Memorial Award (most points in Horticulture Division) and the Myrrel Overdorff Sweepstakes Award ( most points in Horticulture plus Design Divisions) was not present.
